James Gunn has once again taken it upon himself to manage expectations. On Thursday, October 30, the DC Studios co-chief responded on Threads to a fan account claiming the first “Man of Tomorrow” trailer was “expected” in mid-December, attached to “Dune: Part Three.” Gunn’s reply was characteristically blunt: “Expected by whom???” — followed by, “More like James not wanting people to be disappointed when there’s no trailer in December.”
This is the third “Man of Tomorrow” rumor Gunn has personally shot down since September. He had also laughed and said “No” when asked at the “Clayface” red-carpet premiere about any imminent sneak peek. The man is clearly determined that nobody gets their hopes up on his watch.
In the same Threads exchange, Gunn also dismissed DCU Batman casting reports with equal finality: “No one is in the running. We haven’t started casting yet.” No hedging, no maybes — just a flat denial.
The facts on the film are straightforward: “Man of Tomorrow” is the Superman sequel in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Filming wrapped on August 26, 2026, and the movie arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult returning as Clark Kent and Lex Luthor — teaming up against a common threat.
Gunn gave no new target date for the trailer, ruling out only a 2026 release. So DCU fans have a simple rule to follow: when James Gunn says not to expect something, believe him.
