Florida’s Atlantic coast is still being battered by wind and pounding surf on Saturday, October 31, as a week of king tides and fierce onshore winds keeps coastal flooding going along the state’s east coast, with more hazardous beach conditions expected through the weekend.
A slow-moving storm near the Bahamas combined with an area of high pressure across the Northeast to create the persistent winds blowing toward Florida’s Atlantic coast, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Adam Douty, and a disturbance moving across the Gulf is expected to bring a 70 to 80 per cent chance of rain to the coast on Saturday. Gusts of 20 to 30 mph, breaking waves of up to seven or eight feet and a high risk of life-threatening rip currents are forecast through Sunday evening.
The rough surf has already taken a toll: Juno Beach Pier has closed indefinitely after damage from the waves, and high bacteria counts at 16 beaches in Palm Beach County have prompted officials to issue no-swim advisories. King-tide flooding is expected to continue through the end of the week, although the National Weather Service says the worst of the flooding has already happened now that October’s full hunter’s moon has passed.
The wider outlook offers one piece of relief: with just over a month left of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center said on October 30 that it was predicting no tropical cyclone activity for the next seven days.
