The NHL and the Winnipeg Jets have announced a $150,000 NHL Unites Legacy Project investment to expand girls’ and women’s hockey in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
The funding, announced on October 23, 2026, will create a new girls-only Learn to Play program for children aged 6 to 10, run with an all-woman coaching staff. An additional $30,000 NHL/NHLPA Industry Growth Fund grant is included in the package.
The announcement celebrates the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic, which sees the Jets face the Montréal Canadiens outdoors at Princess Auto Stadium on October 25.
Hockey officials say programs like this are key to widening access to the sport, giving young girls across Manitoba a dedicated entry point into the game ahead of one of the city’s biggest hockey weekends.
