Netflix has a certified breakout on its hands. Below, the six-episode Canada-set thriller starring Josh Hartnett, has held the No. 1 English-language series spot since its October 8 premiere, pulling in 17 million views in its first week.
The show — co-starring Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton and Natasha Henstridge — follows a mysterious sea creature terrorizing a small Newfoundland town, blending folk-horror atmosphere with a tight ensemble mystery. Its instant dominance makes it one of Netflix’s biggest original launches of the fall.
Right behind it at No. 2 sits Florence Pugh’s East of Eden, the seven-episode Steinbeck adaptation that premiered October 1. The Diplomat Season 4, with Keri Russell, returned October 15, while Hollywood Arts — the Victorious spinoff — premiered the same day.
And the pipeline is stacked for the rest of the month: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered October 20, the beloved comedy Nobody Wants This Season 3 drops October 22, and Omar Sy’s Lupin Part 4 arrives October 23.
Film fans are covered too: Ben Affleck’s Animals (October 9) — which he stars in, produces, co-writes and directs — and the Mike Tyson docuseries TYSON (October 13) round out one of Netflix’s strongest October slates in years. If you’re looking for your next binge, the algorithm — and 17 million viewers — say start with Below. Also read about the documentary’s Oscar bid and Taylor Swift’s gala performance.
