Ottawa has named veteran Bank of Montreal executive Craig King as chief investment officer at Invest in Canada, the federal agency responsible for attracting foreign investment, Reuters reported on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
King spent more than two decades at BMO, where he last served as head of diversified industries, investment and corporate banking, before retiring from the bank this year. At Invest in Canada, he will lead a team focused on attracting foreign investment and on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s mandate to catalyse one trillion Canadian dollars in total public and private investment across Canada over five years.
The move comes after Carney hosted an investment summit in September that gathered investors from nearly 30 countries and pooled in nearly 500 billion Canadian dollars in new investment commitments, according to a source cited by Reuters.
King’s appointment puts a career dealmaker at the centre of Canada’s investment drive at a moment when the country is competing hard for global capital, with the agency’s pitch resting on the scale of the mandate and the commitments already gathered this year.
