Poehler co-created the series with longtime Parks and Recreation collaborator Michael Schur, based on Kate Myers’ 2023 novel Excavations. It follows a team of archaeologists and less-dedicated college students spending the summer at a dig site in Greece, where the discovery of a rare artifact sends them on the adventure of a lifetime.

In the trailer, Poehler’s character Elise lays out the first rule of working on site in Greece — stray dogs everywhere, never feed them — before she and her colleagues decide to dig up their extraordinary find themselves rather than report it to Neville, played by Hugh Laurie, and risk losing the credit. Soon the four women are entangled in a dangerous international conspiracy, followed and photographed, with the comedy coming from both the intrigue and the interpersonal fallout.

The cast also includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas and Fina Strazza, with guest appearances from Jason Mantzoukas, Max Greenfield, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Dan Bucatinsky. For Poehler, Dig marks her first live-action television leading role since Parks and Recreation ended in 2015, and her reunion with Schur has made it one of the most anticipated comedies of the season.
