One of the year’s strangest — and most talked-about — comedies has arrived in US cinemas. Wicker, starring Olivia Colman, opened on October 23, 2026, via Black Bear Pictures, with a UK release to follow on October 30.
Directed by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer and based on Ursula Wills’ short story The Wicker Husband, the 105-minute, R-rated film was shot in Budapest, Hungary. Colman plays a ridiculed, single fisherwoman who commissions a husband made from wicker, played by Alexander Skarsgård, from a basketmaker played by Peter Dinklage. Elizabeth Debicki, Nabhaan Rizwan and Richard E. Grant also star.
The unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos in a conservative seaside village — a premise that has fuelled the film’s viral buzz and strongly positive early reviews.
Wicker is tracking toward an opening weekend of around $5 million from 1,471 North American theatres.
