Amazon MGM Studios has released the second trailer for I Play Rocky, the upcoming drama about Sylvester Stallone’s desperate fight to star in his own screenplay.
The trailer, unveiled on October 22, stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Stallone — an unknown actor flat broke but convinced that the boxing script he has written will only work if he plays the lead himself. The studio system, the footage suggests, had other ideas.
Peter Farrelly directs from Peter Gamble’s screenplay, with Matt Dillon, AnnaSophia Robb, Tracy Letts and Stephan James — who plays Carl Weathers — rounding out the cast.
The release timing is deliberate: I Play Rocky opens in select theaters on November 6 and expands wide on November 20, one day before the 50th anniversary of the original Rocky’s November 21, 1976 premiere — the film that won Best Picture and made Stallone a star.
