The New Directions are getting back together. Disney+ and Hulu confirmed on October 21 that a Glee reboot is officially in development, announcing the news through the show’s social media accounts.
According to Variety, Lea Michele “is in” to reprise her role as Rachel Berry, the ambitious singer at the heart of the original series. Fellow original cast members Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet also signaled potential returns in social media posts following the announcement.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that he has written a pilot script alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and said he has spoken with around ten original cast members about the project. Deadline reported that Matthew Morrison remains hopeful about coming back, though he is not yet in talks.
The original Fox musical comedy ran from 2009 to 2015 and became a cultural phenomenon, launching several chart hits and making stars of its ensemble cast. No premiere date for the reboot has been announced, and plot details remain under wraps.
