OpenAI Brings GPT-6 Astra and Top Models to Google Cloud in Major AI Deal

Two of the biggest names in artificial intelligence are now doing business together. OpenAI announced on Wednesday that its frontier AI models — including its newest model, GPT-6 Astra — will be available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, alongside its Codex coding agent.

The models will be listed in Google Cloud’s Model Garden and sold via the Google Cloud Marketplace, with customers able to apply their existing Google Cloud spending commitments toward purchases of OpenAI models. They will also appear in Google’s Antigravity development environment and Gemini Agent.

The deal follows OpenAI’s expansion to Amazon Web Services, and both moves came after the company’s exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft expired in April 2026. Google, for its part, is positioning its cloud unit as a neutral platform offering a wider choice of third-party models — after also striking a deal last year to supply OpenAI with additional computing capacity.

For customers in regulated industries, the arrangement matters: it brings Google Cloud’s access controls and data governance to OpenAI’s models for building “agentic AI” workflows. General availability is expected in the coming weeks.

The partnership marks a striking shift in the AI landscape — yesterday’s rivals are today’s distribution partners, and enterprises are the clear winners. Read about Stephen Hubbard’s release and Apple’s October event.
