In return, Winnipeg received forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, the rights to forward Alexander Command, New Jersey’s 2029 second-round pick and its 2027 seventh-round pick.

Hellebuyck is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner (2019-20, 2023-24 and 2024-25) and won the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2024-25. In 2024-25 he went 47-12-3 with a 2.00 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and eight shutouts in 63 games, and he helped Team USA win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a 5-0 record, a 1.18 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage.

The trade came the day his team suspension — imposed on September 16 after he requested a trade and failed to report for training camp — was scheduled to end. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said he was “very comfortable” with the return, and Hellebuyck will return to Winnipeg with New Jersey on November 10.
