Canada’s women’s rugby team beat No. 1-ranked England 31-22 at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa on Friday, October 23, 2026, in the WXV Global Series, leading 12-7 at half-time.
It was Canada’s second straight win over England after a 24-21 win in Toronto the previous week, and England’s first consecutive defeats in a decade, their first losing streak since July 2016. Canada scored three tries in nine minutes around the hour mark, through Sophie de Goede, DaLeaka Menin and a 55-metre solo try from Savannah Bauder, in front of 13,117 fans.
Captain Sophie de Goede scored 21 points in the match, with three tries and three conversions. At half-time, Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden announced extra federal funding of $2,815,000 through Sport Canada’s Sport Support Program, taking Rugby Canada’s 2026-27 total to $4,975,000, plus $898,000 in hosting funding for four international events.
The back-to-back wins underline Canada’s rise to the top of the women’s game, with the home crowd playing a visible part in the Ottawa victory.
