The Milwaukee Brewers are champions at last. With a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, the Brewers closed out the series 4-1 and lifted the first World Series trophy in the franchise’s 58-year history — a wait that began when the club was founded as the Seattle Pilots in 1969.
The night belonged to rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, who carried a scoreless start into the sixth inning before leaving with a right calf cramp. He allowed just two hits and one walk over 5 2/3 shutout innings, silencing a Rays lineup that had finally found life in Game 4. Milwaukee’s bullpen finished the job to seal the championship.
Rookie Cooper Pratt was the offensive hero of the clincher, collecting two hits and driving in two runs. His six consecutive hits across Games 4 and 5 set a new Series record for a rookie, while Jackson Chourio’s 11 hits in the five-game series also established a record. The Brewers went 11-2 in October and won 114 games overall including the playoffs, having dethroned the two-time defending champion Dodgers along the way.
Star Christian Yelich dedicated the championship to legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker, telling reporters “This one’s for Ueck” — a tribute to the Brewers’ beloved voice, who died of cancer in January 2025 and never got to call a Milwaukee title. For a franchise long defined by near-misses, the celebration in St. Petersburg ended nearly six decades of heartbreak in one October night.
