ODI World Cup 2027 Qualifiers to Be Held from February 22 to March 23
According to the latest update, the ODI World Cup 2027 Qualifiers will be played from February 22 to March 23, 2027, spanning nearly a month.
While the ICC is yet to officially announce the World Cup schedule, the tournament is expected to be held between October 4 and November 11, 2027 across 12 venues in the three host nations.
How Will the Qualification Format Work?
The qualification tournament will feature 10 teams competing for a place in the 14-team ODI World Cup.
As per the announced format:
- A total of 10 teams will participate in the qualifiers.
- The successful teams will secure places in the 14-team World Cup.
- Teams finishing second, third, and fourth will compete in a Super Series.
- The team finishing on top of the Super Series will also earn qualification for the World Cup.
- The Super Series will be considered part of the overall World Cup qualification process.
ICC Ranking Cut-off Date Confirmed
The ICC has set September 30, 2026, as the cut-off date for the ODI rankings.
- The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings as of September 30, 2026, will qualify directly for the World Cup.
- Since South Africa and Zimbabwe have already qualified as hosts, the remaining qualification spots will be decided through the qualifying pathway.
- The bottom two ranked teams, the top four teams from the Cricket World Cup League 2, and four teams from the World Cup Qualifier Play-off will make up the 10-team qualifier tournament.
Who Will Play in the Qualifier Play-off?
Before the main qualifiers, the World Cup Qualifier Play-off will feature eight teams.
These will include:
- The teams finishing 5th to 8th in the Cricket World Cup League 2 standings.
- Four teams from the Challenger League.
From these eight teams, four will qualify for the main ODI World Cup 2027 Qualifier, where they will battle for a place at cricket’s biggest 50-over tournament.
