The Alien franchise is heading back to its roots. The Hollywood Reporter reported on October 23, 2026, that 20th Century Studios has hired Aaron Guzikowski to write a new Alien feature, with Ridley Scott producing through Scott Free alongside Michael Pruss.
Scott is not directing the project, and no director is attached yet — the film is in early development. Crucially, it is not a sequel to Alien: Romulus. Instead, it is linked to Scott’s own prequel films, Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017).
The reported connective thread is Michael Fassbender’s android David from those two films, though Fassbender is not currently attached to the new project.
The news comes as the Romulus sequel sits in limbo after director Fede Alvarez stepped back in September 2025. Romulus grossed $350.9 million on an $80 million budget, while Covenant earned $242 million on a $110 million budget. Guzikowski previously wrote Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners (2013) and created HBO Max’s Raised by Wolves, on which Scott directed the first two episodes.
