Most lottery winners bring a lawyer to claim their millions. Paul Riley brought his dog. The Peabody, Massachusetts resident showed up to collect his $4 million Massachusetts State Lottery prize with his pup Raven at his side — and the photos instantly melted the internet.
Riley won on the lottery’s 100X Cash game, announced Tuesday, October 20, beating odds of 1 in 5,376,000. He opted for the $2.6 million lump-sum payout. The winning ticket was purchased at Summit Variety in Peabody.
Described by the lottery as an animal lover, Riley said he plans to donate to the Animal Rescue League — fitting, given his four-legged plus-one — and to buy his wife a new car.
It is the kind of wholesome twist the lottery rarely sees: a life-changing windfall, claimed with a wagging tail in the frame.
Raven, for the record, appeared entirely unimpressed by the check — which, to be fair, is exactly what makes the photo perfect.
