The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 20-17 on a 22-yard Jake Bates field goal as time expired on October 25, 2026, at Ford Field in Detroit.
Detroit improved to 4-2 and Green Bay fell to 4-3, in Detroit’s first NFC North win of 2026. With 4:53 left in a 17-17 tie, coach Dan Campbell went for it on fourth-and-one from Detroit’s own 24-yard line, and Jahmyr Gibbs was stopped for a two-yard loss by Keisean Nixon.
Green Bay then missed its chance: DJ Wonnum blocked rookie kicker Trey Smack’s 35-yard attempt with 3:21 left. Smack had earlier missed from 26 yards but made a 43-yarder to tie the game at 17-17 with 7:10 left. Detroit then drove 71 yards in 10 plays, with Gibbs deliberately sliding short of the goal line to run the clock down before Bates kicked the winner.
Jared Goff went 22 of 32 for 303 yards and two touchdowns, Jameson Williams had five catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and Amon-Ra St. Brown had nine catches for 153 yards. Gibbs carried 29 times for 116 yards plus five catches for 27 yards, but lost a fumble, while Jordan Love went 27 of 45 for 274 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Campbell explained afterwards, as quoted by the Detroit Free Press on October 26: “I thought we would get it, No. 1… No. 2, I knew we’d get the ball back if it didn’t work out.” Several officiating calls in the game were disputed and questioned by fans and commentators; no single call is presented here as proven wrong.
