Sakshi Choudhary Wins Gold: Indian boxer Sakshi Choudhary scripted history by winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 24-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, clinched the title in the 51kg women’s category, earning India’s third boxing gold medal of the tournament.
With Sakshi’s triumph, India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games reached 31 medals, including nine gold medals, further strengthening the country’s impressive campaign.
Inspired by Vijender Singh
Sakshi’s boxing journey began after she was inspired by Vijender Singh’s historic bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In 2012, she started training under renowned coach Jagdish Singh, who had also coached Vijender Singh.
Through years of hard work and dedication, Sakshi emerged as one of India’s brightest boxing prospects. She has been part of the national training camp at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, and currently serves as a Havildar in the Indian Army.
A Remarkable Career
Sakshi has built an impressive record over the years. In 2015, she became the AIBA Junior Women’s World Champion in Taipei after defeating American national champion Yarisel Ramirez in the final.
She is also a two-time Youth World Champion and continued her winning form by securing the gold medal in the 54kg category at the World Boxing Cup in Astana last year.
Before earning her place in the Commonwealth Games squad, Sakshi defeated some of India’s top boxers, including multiple-time world champion Nikhat Zareen and former national champion Meenakshi Hooda, proving her consistency and championship pedigree.
A Proud Moment for India
Sakshi Choudhary’s historic gold medal is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Indian boxing. Her inspiring journey—from a farmer’s daughter to a Commonwealth Games champion and Indian Army Havildar—reflects determination, discipline, and the growing strength of Indian women’s boxing on the international stage.
